What can you grow/farm in a desert?
There are different crops that do well in arid enviroments. Jojoba is a weed native to the USA that is used in many hair and skin products. It likes well drained soil. Nopales, the tender pads of the beaver tail cacus, grow well in the desert, as does Yucca. These are both edible (I eat yucca flowers and find them very sweet). Then of course there is the cash crop of peyote buttons. They grow on a particular species of cactus and are valued by Native Americans for their hallucinogenic qualities. Mormon Tea is also a plant which grows well in the desert; it's edible and can be used as tea, hence the name.
